In the spring of 2019, a wave of violence rippled through Baltimore, tragically cutting short the life of Marcus E. Alston. On the evening of April 10th, the 20-year-old male was in East Baltimore when gunfire erupted. The incident, which unfolded near East North Avenue, was not only a fatal encounter for Alston but also for 21-year-old Diarah Baxter.
A third individual, a 19-year-old male, was also wounded in the attack, suffering a gunshot to the leg.
The investigation into the double homicide soon revealed a grim connection to another violent outburst that occurred the very next day. Authorities linked the shooting that claimed Alston's life to a retaliatory quadruple shooting in the Mondawmin area of Baltimore on April 11, 2019. This subsequent act of violence was instrumental in leading investigators to a suspect.
Evidence gathered during the investigation placed a vehicle belonging to Donte Patterson at the scene of both the double homicide and the quadruple shooting that followed. This critical link established Patterson's involvement in the string of violent events. Following legal proceedings, Donte Patterson was convicted for his role in the April 2019 shootings. In January of 2022, he was sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 52 years. The significant sentence was intended to ensure that he would no longer pose a threat to the community.
