In Ellicott City, Maryland, a young man's life was tragically cut short on the evening of June 1, 2019. Jacob Robert Mauer, a 20-year-old male, was fatally shot while sitting in a parked car. The incident occurred in the 4200 block of Montgomery Road just before 10 p.m.
Authorities identified Rane Dellinger, also 20 years old, as the suspect in Mauer's death.
Investigators believe that Mauer, Dellinger, and another friend were together in the vehicle, using drugs, when Dellinger fired a single shot that struck and killed Mauer. Following the shooting, Dellinger fled the scene. He was apprehended in Cumberland County, North Carolina, nearly 30 hours later and taken into custody without incident.
Dellinger, a resident of Autumn Hill Drive in Ellicott City, was subsequently charged with first and second-degree murder, as well as other related offenses. Howard County police coordinated with authorities in North Carolina to extradite him back to Maryland to face the charges.
Jacob Mauer, who resided on Haycarriage Court, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a 2016 graduate of Centennial High School and had earned an associate's degree in Business Management from Howard Community College. At the time of his death, he was employed at LeeLynn's Dining Room and Lounge in his hometown. His family described him as a creative young man who enjoyed music, video games, and spending time with his loved ones.
