In the early morning hours of March 10, 2020, just days after his 39th birthday, Kye Snell, a Black/African American male, was fatally shot in Baltimore, Maryland. A father of six and a beloved little league football coach, Snell was known for his fun and outgoing personality. He worked in concrete but truly loved building memories with his family and friends, who remember him for always making them laugh.
On that tragic morning, Snell had been out with friends when they stopped on
Liberty Heights Avenue. As he walked toward a car that had pulled up, shots were fired. Police believe the vehicle Snell was in was targeted due to a prior encounter one of the other occupants had with the suspect. His family feels he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. The incident cut short a life full of energy and left his loved ones, especially his children, devastated.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Baltimore Police Department investigated the homicide and identified a person of interest. The family was in close communication with the lead detective and remained hopeful for a resolution. However, progress stalled as the detective was promoted and reassigned. According to the police department, there was not sufficient evidence to formally charge the person believed to be responsible for the murder.
The family expressed immense frustration and sorrow over the lack of consistent updates following the detective's reassignment, feeling as though the case was no longer a priority. To this day, no arrests have been made in the murder of Kye Snell, and his family continues to press for justice and a resolution to his case, which remains unsolved.
