In the spring of 2020, a verbal dispute tragically escalated, leading to the death of 22-year-old Jose Romero-Salgado. On the evening of May 2nd, patrol officers responded to a call for a shooting in the 5200 block of Carswell Avenue in Camp Springs, Maryland. Upon arrival, they discovered Romero-Salgado outside, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
The investigation into the shooting led homicide detectives to identify a suspect. Damani Reddix, a 17-year-old from the 6300 block of Maxwell Drive in Camp Springs, was taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting.
Despite his age, Reddix was charged as an adult.
The preliminary investigation suggested that the deadly encounter stemmed from a verbal altercation between Reddix and Romero-Salgado. Reddix was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and other related charges. Following his arrest, he was held at the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
