Christian Harvey Tate, a 29-year-old member of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club, was killed on April 27, 2002, while riding his motorcycle on Interstate 40 near Ludlow, California. Tate was returning to San Diego after attending the Laughlin River Run, a major motorcycle rally. As he traveled along the highway, a vehicle pulled up alongside him, and multiple shots were fired, fatally striking Tate in the back.
His body was discovered near his wrecked Harley-Davidson motorcycle, with his driver's license left on the seat.
Tate's murder occurred on the same day as the infamous River Run Riot, a violent confrontation between the Hells Angels and Mongols motorcycle clubs in Laughlin, Nevada, during the rally. While his death was initially linked to the ongoing conflict between these rival clubs, no suspects were ever arrested, and the case remains unsolved. Tate’s murder, along with the broader feud between these biker groups, fueled ongoing tensions, leading to additional violence in the years following his death.
