In the early morning hours of December 15, 2020, the life of 22-year-old Denzel Shabazz Jones, an African-American male, was cut short in a burst of violence in Edgewood, Maryland. Deputies from the Harford County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the 1400 block of Hanson Road at approximately 6:07 a.m. following a report of a person with a gunshot wound. Upon their arrival, they discovered Jones's body in the front yard of a residence.
He had been fatally shot.
The subsequent investigation by the Harford County Sheriff's Office revealed a complex and tragic series of events. It was determined that Jones, along with 19-year-old Emonye White and another unidentified individual, had gone to the Hanson Road location and began shooting at a private home. In a grim turn of events, during the commission of this act, Jones was struck at least once in the back by gunfire. His two companions, White and the unnamed third person, fled the scene, leaving Jones behind.
For months, the case remained under active investigation. Then, on February 25, 2021, a breakthrough was announced. Detectives with the Harford County Sheriff's Office charged Emonye White with involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of Denzel Jones. The charges were served to White at the Harford County Detention Center, where he was already being held on unrelated charges. He was subsequently held without bail. The investigation into the incident remained ongoing as authorities continued their efforts to identify and locate the third individual who was present at the time of the fatal shooting.
