On a cold Saturday morning in Baltimore, January 30, 2021, the life of 58-year-old Ken Gerstley was tragically cut short in a senseless act of violence. A resident of Pikesville, Maryland, Gerstley was known for his kind heart and dedication to his family. On that fateful day, the male victim was diligently at work, servicing an ATM outside a convenience store on Brighton Street in West Baltimore when he was shot during an attempted robbery.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving a community in shock and a family devastated by their sudden loss.
In the wake of the shooting, the Baltimore Police Department launched an investigation, believing the motive to be robbery. Detectives released surveillance images of a suspect vehicle, a dark-colored or blue SUV, that two suspects were believed to have used to flee the scene. Hope for a swift resolution dwindled, however, when the vehicle was discovered abandoned, yielding no forensic evidence to identify those responsible. A description of one of the suspects emerged, described only as a young African-American male, but this lead proved insufficient to bring about an arrest.
As time stretched on with no arrests made, Ken Gerstley's case grew cold, though the pain for his loved ones remained sharp. Desperate for answers and justice, his family publicly pleaded for anyone with information to come forward. To encourage assistance from the public, they offered a reward, which eventually grew to a substantial $88,000, for any information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of the individuals who ended a beloved husband and father's life. Despite the significant reward and the family's continued appeals, the investigation has stalled, and to this day, no arrests have been made, leaving the case unsolved and a family still waiting for closure.
