In the spring of 2019, a violent encounter on a Baltimore street set in motion a chain of events that would ultimately lead to the death of Jaquan Purvis two years later. On the night of April 2, 2019, police responded to a Shot Spotter alert in the 1400 block of West Fayette Street, where they found Purvis suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The 37-year-old male was transported to the University of Maryland's Shock Trauma Center for treatment of his serious injuries.
