On a cold morning in West Baltimore, the lifeless body of 55-year-old Melvin White, a Black male, was discovered on a front porch in the 3000 block of Edmondson Avenue. It was approximately 9:50 a.m. on February 3, 2024, when Western District officers were initially dispatched to the scene to investigate a report of a possible overdose. Upon their arrival, they found White unresponsive, and he was pronounced deceased by medics at the scene.
Initially, the cause of death was not apparent.
However, the following day, an autopsy conducted by the Medical Examiner's Office revealed a grim truth. White had not died of an overdose but had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. This discovery immediately shifted the focus of the investigation, turning it into a homicide case. Baltimore Police Department Homicide detectives began to piece together the events that led to White's untimely death, urging anyone with information to come forward.
More than a year later, in April 2025, a breakthrough in the case was announced. Investigators identified two suspects responsible for the fatal shooting: 18-year-old Noah Diggs and a 17-year-old female, both from Baltimore. On April 3, 2025, the 17-year-old was arrested without incident and taken to the Central Booking Intake Facility, where she was charged with first-degree murder. Diggs, who was already incarcerated on unrelated charges, was also officially charged with first-degree murder for his role in White's death. Both suspects are currently being held without bail.
