In the spring of 2021, a burst of violence on a Baltimore street set in motion a chain of events that would take over two years to be classified as a homicide. On the afternoon of May 14, 2021, at approximately 5:32 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting in the 2500 block of Hollins Street. There they found Unseld Kittrell Knight, a 39-year-old Black male, suffering from multiple serious gunshot wounds.
Knight was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition.
For more than two years, he fought the devastating injuries he sustained that day. His struggle for life ended on August 9, 2023, when he succumbed to the complications from the shooting. Following his death, his body was taken to the Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.
It was not until November 14, 2023, that homicide detectives were advised by the Medical Examiner's office that Knight's death was a direct result of the injuries he had suffered in the 2021 shooting. With this ruling, his case was officially classified as a homicide. The Baltimore Police Department's investigation into the shooting that mortally wounded Unseld Knight remains ongoing. To date, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with his murder. Authorities continue to ask for the public's assistance, hoping that someone will come forward with information that could lead to a breakthrough in the unsolved case.
