On January 12, 2024, at approximately 4:13 p.m., Baltimore police responded to a shooting incident in the 800 block of Washington Boulevard, following a ShotSpotter alert. Upon arrival, officers found 36-year-old Deon Beasley, known affectionately as "Rio" within the Pigtown community, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced deceased by medical personnel.
