Taya Ashton, a 20-year-old Black transgender woman, was tragically murdered on July 17, 2021, in her apartment in Suitland, Maryland. The perpetrator, DeAllen Price, a 29-year-old man from Capitol Heights, Maryland, was in a relationship with Ashton at the time of her death. Price fatally shot Ashton after discovering her transgender identity.
Following the incident, Price was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence.
