In the early morning hours of April 3, 2021, the life of 55-year-old Angela Maria Thompson was tragically cut short in a violent encounter in Capitol Heights, Maryland. Known affectionately as 'Angie' to her loved ones, she was a mother of six and a grandmother to six, remembered for her dedication to her family. Angela, who was born on November 10, 1965, had been raised in Washington, D.C., and later attended Prince George's Community College.
The events that led to her death unfolded
in the parking lot of a Prince George's County fire station on Sheriff Road. Around 3 a.m., a police officer on patrol witnessed the distinct flash of a gun being fired inside a parked car. Upon investigating, the officer discovered a horrifying scene. Inside the vehicle were two men who had been shot, and just outside, law enforcement found Angela, also suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the proximity to the fire station, all three victims were pronounced dead at the scene. The other two victims were identified as 54-year-old Keith Lee and 54-year-old Louie Vernon Woodson.
An arrest was made in connection with the triple homicide. The suspect was identified as 38-year-old Sayyid Hayat of Northeast D.C. Authorities reported that Hayat was seen fleeing the scene and discarding a firearm. Investigators believe that Hayat was an acquaintance of all three victims and was inside the car with them when the shooting began.
Following his apprehension, Sayyid Hayat was charged with three counts of both first and second-degree murder. While the motive for the killings remains under investigation, police have stated that the incident was not connected to the fire station or its personnel. Hayat was ordered to be held at the Department of Corrections without bond as the legal proceedings against him commenced. The community was left to mourn the sudden and violent loss of three of its members.
