In the early morning hours of October 30, 2021, the life of 25-year-old Romeo Franklin of District Heights, Maryland, was tragically cut short in Temple Hills. Police responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 4:30 a.m. in the 3800 block of 28th Avenue. Upon their arrival, they discovered Franklin on a sidewalk, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into the shooting quickly identified a suspect, 30-year-old Rudolph Powell III of Washington, D.C. Authorities determined that the fatal encounter was not a random act of violence, but rather stemmed from a dispute between Powell and Franklin, who were known to each other.
The preliminary investigation suggested that an altercation between the two men escalated, leading to the deadly shooting.
Following the investigation, Rudolph Powell III was arrested and charged in connection with the death of Romeo Franklin. The charges brought against him included first and second-degree murder, as well as assault and other related offenses. After his arrest in Washington, D.C., he awaited extradition to Prince George's County to face the charges.
