Do you know who murdered Larry Macklin?
On the evening of August 13, 2012, the quiet routine of a Louisville, Kentucky neighborhood was shattered by violence in the city's west end. Larry Macklin, a 60-year-old African American male, was well-known to the residents of the area, earning the affectionate nickname "Larry the Lawnmower Man" for his habit of walking the streets with his equipment, offering to cut grass to earn a living. Neighbors described him as a kind and gentle figure who avoided conflict, making his sudden death all the more shocking to the community.
Just before 9:00 p.m., residents near the intersection of 23rd Street and St. Louis Avenue reported hearing the sound of a single gunshot. In an area where such noises were unfortunately familiar, many did not immediately react or investigate. It was not until later that evening that a witness, identified only as "Dre," discovered Macklin's body lying in an alleyway. Authorities arrived at the scene shortly after the discovery, and the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office pronounced him dead at 10:28 p.m. from a single gunshot wound.
Detectives launched a homicide investigation, theorizing that Macklin may have been walking home from work when he was targeted. despite the presence of potential witnesses in the densely populated neighborhood, fear of retaliation stifled the flow of information.
