Do you know what happened to Cory Crowe? In the Park Hill neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, on the afternoon of October 25, 2014, a young man's life was cut short. Cory Michael Crowe, a 24-year-old male, was discovered shot in the driver's seat of his car near the intersection of South 25th Street and Standard Avenue. Law enforcement officers were called to the scene at 3:41 p.m. following reports of gunfire.
Upon their arrival, they found Crowe, who was pronounced dead at 4:08 p.m.
The initial investigation into the shooting suggested that a Black male was seen fleeing the area after the shots were fired. LMPD detectives canvassed the neighborhood, going door-to-door to interview potential witnesses, and a K-9 unit was brought in to aid in the search for a suspect. Despite these efforts, the case grew cold, and for years, no arrests were made in connection with the homicide. The lack of answers left a painful void for Crowe's family.
Cory, known to his loved ones as 'ACE,' was remembered as an ambitious and compassionate young father. His mother, Rose Smith, was also critically wounded in the incident that took her son's life. In the wake of her profound loss, and with her son's murder remaining unsolved, Smith channeled her grief into action. She established a nonprofit organization called The ACE Project to honor his memory. In a poignant move, she also purchased the abandoned property near where her son was killed, with the vision of transforming it into a community center to provide a safe space for those impacted by violence and trauma.
