On January 10, 2023, a violent event unfolded in the Russell neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky, claiming the life of Caleb Pace, a 46-year-old Black male. The incident occurred during the evening hours on the 3100 block of Vermont Avenue, a residential area near West Chestnut Street. Officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department were dispatched to the scene around 6:45 p.m. after reports of gunfire erupted in the community. Upon their arrival, first responders discovered a chaotic scene where multiple individuals had been struck by bullets.

Pace was found at the location suffering from fatal gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. He was not the only victim of the shooting; another man, identified as 49-year-old David Boyd, was also critically injured during the attack. Emergency medical personnel transported Boyd to the University of Louisville Hospital in an effort to save his life, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and died shortly after arrival. In addition to the two men, a juvenile was struck by gunfire during the incident. The youth was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries that police described as non-life-threatening.

As the investigation commenced, the Louisville Metro Police Department's Homicide Unit began combing the area for evidence and interviewing potential witnesses. In the immediate aftermath, law enforcement officials stated that there were no known suspects, and the motive for the triple shooting remained unclear. The case was subsequently listed among the department's open homicides for the year 2023, indicating that detectives were continuing to seek leads to identify those responsible for the violence.

Despite the passage of time since that winter evening, public records and police updates have not indicated any arrests or charges filed specifically in connection with the deaths of Pace and Boyd. The investigation remains active, with authorities having previously urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and contact the anonymous tip line. The deaths added to the city's homicide toll for early 2023, leaving the cases of both men unresolved as police continue their work to bring closure to the families involved.
