On the evening of January 27, 2022, in the Parkside neighborhood of Baltimore, 19-year-old Damond Price, a male, became the victim of a fatal shooting. The incident occurred at approximately 10:45 p.m. in the 4800 block of Lorelly Avenue. When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Price suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
An autopsy later confirmed that the cause of death was homicide by multiple gunshot wounds, revealing that Price had been shot 13 times.
Investigators determined the crime scene to be the parking lot of the Lorelly and Sinclair Gate Apartments. According to charging documents, surveillance footage from the area captured the moments leading up to the shooting. The video showed Price approaching a four-door vehicle in the parking lot. A passenger from the rear of the car then exited and began shooting at Price with two handguns, and the driver of the vehicle also emerged and opened fire with a rifle. At the scene, police recovered sixteen 9mm casings, five. 22 casings, a black bag, and an Apple iPhone that was later identified as belonging to Devon Young.
Less than a month later, on February 18, 2022, authorities located and detained Devon Young, then 21 years old. He was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with Damond Price's murder. Young faced charges of first and second-degree murder, firearm possession with a previous felony conviction, and the use of a firearm in a felony or violent crime.
The case proceeded to trial, and on July 30, 2024, a jury found Devon Young guilty of all charges except for first-degree murder, for which they did not render a verdict. Testimony during the trial included that of the medical examiner, who detailed the extent of Price's injuries. On February 27, 2025, a Baltimore City Circuit Court Judge sentenced Young to a total of 30 years in prison for his role in the murder of Damond Price. The sentence consisted of 25 years for second-degree murder and a consecutive five years for firearm possession with a previous felony conviction. The prosecution had recommended a sentence of 75 years, noting that a total of four guns and three individuals were involved in the shooting. During the sentencing, Young offered his condolences to Price's family.
