In the early hours of December 28, 2025, a verbal dispute in a parking lot in Baltimore's Federal Hill neighborhood escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 32-year-old Charles D. Brothers. The incident occurred at approximately 1:54 a.m. in the 1000 block of Light Street, where police responded to a report of an unresponsive person. Upon arrival, officers discovered Brothers, a Black male, with an apparent gunshot wound to his upper body.
Paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene. Tragically, the day of his death was also his birthday.
The investigation into the homicide led Baltimore police to identify a suspect. On December 31, 2025, detectives arrested 31-year-old Davahughn Johnson in the 500 block of Saint Paul Street without incident. Johnson was subsequently charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting of Charles Brothers. He was transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility.
The death of Charles Brothers marked another instance of gun violence in the Federal Hill area, raising concerns among community members and local officials. Reports indicated that this was the second homicide in the immediate vicinity within two months and one of several in the broader neighborhood over the preceding year. The shooting took place in a parking lot adjacent to an elementary school, further heightening the community's sense of unease.
