In the quiet evening of February 18, 2022, a dispute tragically escalated, claiming the life of 26-year-old Ernesto Gomez in Landover, Maryland. At approximately 8:00 pm, patrol officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of Kent Town Place following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Mr. Gomez outside, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite the immediate response, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Prince George's County Police Department's Homicide Unit launched an investigation into the fatal shooting. Through their determined efforts and various investigative techniques, detectives were able to identify a suspect in the case. In April 2022, their work led to the arrest of 27-year-old David Hunter Jr., also a resident of Landover.
Authorities have indicated that their preliminary investigation suggests the shooting stemmed from a dispute between Hunter and Gomez. Following his arrest, David Hunter Jr. was charged with first and second-degree murder, along with other related charges. He was taken into the custody of the Department of Corrections and held on a no-bond status. The police department encouraged anyone with further information relevant to the investigation to come forward to assist in the ongoing legal process.
