In the afternoon hours of October 21, 2022, a burst of gunfire shattered the autumn quiet in the Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood of Baltimore. When the echo of the shots faded, 40-year-old David Braxton, a Black male, was discovered inside a vehicle on the 1000 block of North Calhoun Street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The call to the Baltimore Police Department came in around 4:30 p.m., spurred by a shot spotter alert that pinpointed the location of the violence.
First
responders arrived at the scene to find Braxton gravely injured. He was immediately rushed to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, a place where life often hangs in the balance. Despite the urgent efforts of the medical staff, Braxton's injuries proved to be too severe. A little after 5:00 p.m., he was pronounced deceased, becoming another victim of the city's ongoing struggle with gun violence. His death was one of four homicides to occur in Baltimore over a span of just a few days.
In the wake of the shooting, Western District homicide detectives took charge of the investigation. They canvassed the area for evidence and sought out potential witnesses, hoping to piece together the events that led to Braxton's untimely death. However, information regarding a possible suspect or a motive for the shooting was not immediately available. The Baltimore Police Department has urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation, but as of now, no arrests have been publicly announced in connection with the murder of David Braxton. The case remains open as his family and community await answers and hope for justice.
