Lattimore Thompson, a 30-year-old Black / African American male, tragically lost his life following a dispute at a Baltimore gas station on the afternoon of December 29, 2022. The fatal encounter occurred at the Exxon station situated at the intersection of West Mulberry and North Greene streets. An altercation between Thompson and another individual escalated, resulting in Thompson being shot. He was rushed to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Remembered as a loving father to his teenage son and a cherished grandson, his death left his family heartbroken.
In the wake of the shooting, the Baltimore Police Department launched an investigation and quickly released surveillance photos of a person of interest. The individual, later identified as Dominic Hicks, was seen fleeing the scene in a silver Hyundai Sonata with Maryland license plates. Following the release of the images and an ensuing investigation, Hicks was apprehended and charged in connection with Thompson's death.
The case proceeded to trial, where details of the altercation that led to the deadly shooting were presented. On November 17, 2023, a jury convicted Dominic Hicks of voluntary manslaughter and other related charges. While the conviction brought a measure of legal closure, Thompson's family, including his mother Keisha Hughes, expressed their profound grief and disappointment, stating their belief that a murder conviction would have been more just. Hicks faced a potential sentence of up to 45 years in prison.
