In the spring of 2021, a young man's life was cut tragically short in a Baltimore residence, a violent act that was initially shrouded in the guise of a potential suicide. On the afternoon of April 11th, police were called to a home in the 4800 block of Bayonne Avenue, where they discovered 22-year-old Shamyar Austin unresponsive. Medics who arrived at the scene pronounced the male victim dead.
It was soon determined that Austin had been shot multiple times.
The initial uncertainty surrounding the circumstances of his death gave way to a homicide investigation. Detectives delved into the case and swiftly identified a person of interest. Their investigation led them to 21-year-old Kyree Davis. Following an interview with police, Davis confessed to the shooting. He was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder and several gun-related offenses.
As the case moved through the legal system, further details emerged about the final moments of Shamyar Austin's life. An autopsy confirmed that he had sustained three gunshot wounds. Kyree Davis was held without bail at Central Booking as he awaited trial. In July 2023, Davis accepted a plea deal, pleading down from the initial first-degree murder charge. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison for second-degree murder and firearm use in a felony.
