Trooper First Class Bruce Kenneth Smalls, aged 30, tragically lost his life on September 27, 1985, in Jasper County, South Carolina. Smalls, a dedicated member of the South Carolina Highway Patrol, was performing his duties when he was fatally shot during a traffic stop on Interstate 95. The incident occurred after Smalls pulled over a vehicle driven by Richard Charles Johnson, a 22-year-old hitchhiker who had previously murdered a Virginia businessman named Daniel Swanson.
