In the early morning hours of a Wednesday in March 2017, a grim discovery was made in the parking lot of the Newberry Green Apartments on Monroe Street in Newberry, South Carolina. Inside a vehicle sat 48-year-old Clinton Farrell Stephens, a male resident of Newberry, who had been fatally shot multiple times. The Newberry County Coroner's Office was called to the scene, and his death was officially ruled a homicide, launching an intensive investigation by the Newberry Police Department.
