In the late summer of 2011, tragedy struck the community of Sumter, South Carolina, with the death of 18-year-old Kiana Shamonda Dontrell Moore. An African American female, Kiana's life was cut short on August 31, 2011, when she passed away at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born on August 11, 1993, to her mother Jacqueline Moore, Kiana was on the cusp of adulthood and was also an expectant mother at the time of her death.
