Death by Force

On March 23, 2024, 33-year-old Jennifer Marie Atkinson Cruz, a resident of Sumter, South Carolina, was fatally shot. At the time of her death, she was approximately 35 weeks pregnant. Following the shooting, she was transported to Prisma Health Tuomey, where she succumbed to her injuries. Medical professionals were able to deliver her baby, who was reported to be in critical condition in the neonatal intensive care unit.
