In the early morning hours of April 18, 2015, a night that for many of his peers was filled with the joy of their senior prom, 18-year-old Quentin Reeves was fatally shot in Longs, South Carolina. The incident occurred around 2:15 a.m. at a nightclub called The Party Shop on S.C. 90, less than a mile from his home. Reeves, a male student at North Myrtle Beach High School, was caught in the crossfire of what authorities described as a 'gun battle' that erupted among patrons at the establishment.
He sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and died from his injuries around 5 a.m.
The investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of four individuals. Gettie Levon Bellamy III, then 26, Tommy Bell Jr., 21, Lindsey Walton, 24, and Bradley Gore II, 21, were all charged in connection with the incident. Witnesses and evidence indicated that the four arrived at The Party Shop in the same vehicle and engaged in a gunfight with other patrons. Investigators found 24 shell casings at the scene, including nine from an AK-47 that matched the bullet that struck and killed Reeves. Prosecutors described him as an 'innocent bystander' in the senseless act of violence.
In February 2017, the legal proceedings for those charged began to unfold. Gettie Levon Bellamy III pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter. During his sentencing, Quentin Reeves's mother, Pamela McNeil, expressed her forgiveness towards Bellamy and asked the judge for leniency. Bellamy was subsequently sentenced to 10 years in prison, with credit for the 19 months he had already served. Tommy Bell Jr. also faced a murder charge, while Lindsey Walton and Bradley Gore II were indicted on charges of accessory after the fact to murder.
