In the late summer of 2015, the community of Denmark, South Carolina, was shaken by the tragic death of 24-year-old Damion Melvin Green. A Black male, Green was a senior at Voorhees College, looking forward to his future. On August 6, 2015, he was found shot to death in his own home, a place that should have been his sanctuary. Known affectionately as 'Danky,' he was remembered by loved ones for his dedication to his church, where he sang in the youth and young adult choirs, and his commitment
to his education. He had graduated from Barnwell High School in 2009 and was pursuing higher education with the promise of a bright future ahead.
The investigation into his murder stretched on for years, leaving his family, particularly his mother, Deloris Boyce, in a state of prolonged anguish and a desperate search for answers and justice. The community shared in their grief, hoping for a resolution that would bring some measure of peace to those who knew and loved Damion. The case highlighted the persistent and often slow-moving nature of complex violent crime investigations.
Finally, in November 2019, a breakthrough was made. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division announced that they had secured arrest warrants for two suspects: LaDamian Dunbar and Ja'Keon Porter. Both men were charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime in connection with Green's death. Following the issuance of the warrants, Dunbar was taken into custody and held at the Bamberg County jail. Porter was already incarcerated, serving a sentence for an unrelated crime at the time the warrants were served.
