In the early morning hours of September 30, 2015, a call about a suspicious person in the parking lot of the Richland Mall in Columbia, South Carolina, set in motion a tragic chain of events. Forest Acres Police Officer Gregory Thomas Alia, a 32-year-old male and a seven-year veteran of the force, responded to the call alongside two other officers. What began as a routine check would end in a fatal confrontation that would deeply impact the community.
