In the summer of 2020, the life of 19-year-old James Lamont Thomas was cut short in an act of violence that unfolded at an apartment complex in Columbia, South Carolina. A young man known for his love of basketball and his vibrant presence, Thomas was fatally shot on the evening of July 5, 2020, at The Rowan apartments, a complex primarily housing college students. The Richland County Sheriff's Department responded to a call of shots fired and found Thomas with a gunshot wound to his upper body.
