In the early hours of January 9, 2016, a dispute inside a nightclub in Loris, South Carolina, turned deadly, claiming the life of 31-year-old Christopher Alexander Sumpter. An argument between Sumpter, a Black/African American male, and another individual escalated into a violent confrontation that resulted in Sumpter being shot multiple times. He was rushed to Grand Strand Medical Center for medical attention but ultimately succumbed to his injuries during surgery.
