In the winter of 2018, the life of Kendal Ray, a 27-year-old Black male from Loris, South Carolina, was tragically cut short. On the evening of January 6th, what began as a seemingly ordinary encounter took a fatal turn. Ray was at a residence on Barts Road when he stepped outside with a man named Quotase Jenrette. Jenrette, who was 20 years old at the time, allegedly wanted to show Ray a firearm.
Moments later, the sharp report of a gunshot shattered the night.
Following the sound, Kendal Ray was discovered on the ground, having sustained a severe gunshot wound to his head. He was rushed to Grand Strand Medical Center for emergency medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injury the following day, on January 7, 2018. His death was officially ruled a homicide by the Horry County Coroner's Office, with the cause identified as the single gunshot wound.
The investigation into Ray's death quickly centered on Quotase Jenrette of Clarendon, North Carolina. Authorities identified him as the primary suspect in the shooting. A warrant was issued for his arrest on the charge of murder. Following a search, Jenrette was located and taken into custody by the Columbus County Sheriff's Office, bringing a swift development in the case.
