Jonathan Michael Prins, a 29-year-old from Chapin, South Carolina, tragically lost his life on July 24, 2016. Prins, along with Staff Sgt. Charles Allen Judge Jr., was fatally shot while attempting to protect a woman during an altercation at the Frayed Knot Bar & Grill in Lake Murray, west of Columbia. The incident occurred when Joseph Elijah Mills, 25, physically assaulted a female companion. Several bar patrons, including Prins and Judge, intervened to help the woman.
