In the late summer evening of August 29, 2016, the life of 18-year-old T'zyah DaiQuaiz Nigery Peterson was tragically cut short in Hartsville, South Carolina. An African American male, Peterson was discovered by a passerby lying in the middle of the intersection of Williams and South 6th Street at approximately 10:35 p.m. The grim discovery was made after the sound of gunshots echoed through the neighborhood.
First responders arrived to find Peterson bleeding in the roadway and he was
pronounced dead at the scene. The Darlington County Coroner later confirmed that the young man had died from an apparent gunshot wound. The Hartsville Police Department subsequently launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. An autopsy was scheduled to determine the precise cause of his death.
T'zyah, known to his loved ones as 'Zyah,' was born on August 20, 1998, in Darlington County. He attended local public schools and was employed at a Shoney's restaurant in Hartsville. His death sent shockwaves through the community, leaving his family and friends to mourn the sudden and violent loss of a young life. Memorial services were held to honor his memory and offer support to his grieving family.
Despite the ongoing investigation by the Hartsville Police Department's Detective Division and public appeals for information, no arrests have been made in connection with T'zyah Peterson's murder. The case remains unsolved, with no suspects publicly identified. The authorities have continued to encourage anyone with information regarding the events of that night to come forward in the hope of bringing a resolution to the case and providing closure for his family.
