In the spring of 2017, the community of North Augusta, South Carolina, was touched by the death of Rodney Bakari Johnson. A man of 40 years, he passed away on April 6, 2017. Reports indicate that Johnson died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Known to his friends and family by the nickname 'Slim', Johnson was a 1995 graduate of Aiken High School and had attended Benedict College. He was an employee at the T-Mobile call center in Augusta.
He was a member of Second Baptist Church, where his funeral services were held on April 12, 2017, followed by interment at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Kizzie Gibson Johnson, and their three children, Tatyana Edwards, Jadon, and Laila Johnson. His parents, Diane LaVerne Mance Justice and Rodney Johnson, as well as his stepfather, Sylvester Justice, and two sisters, Jennifer and Kimya Justice, also survived him. The news of his passing brought an outpouring of condolences from friends and co-workers who remembered him as a good and funny person.
