In the early morning hours of July 17, 2020, a verbal dispute escalated into deadly violence at a residence on Old Aiken Road in North Augusta, South Carolina, claiming the life of 44-year-old Carlos Jermaine Turner Sr. Deputies responded to a report of a shooting at the home just after midnight and discovered Turner in a back room, unresponsive with what was later determined to be a fatal gunshot wound.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to witnesses at the home, Turner had been involved in an argument with another man present at the residence. This altercation ultimately led to the shooting. When law enforcement arrived, they located and arrested 56-year-old Richard Ernest Posey of Ridge Spring in connection with the incident. Posey was taken into custody at the scene without incident.
Following the investigation by the Aiken County Sheriff's Office, Richard Ernest Posey was charged with voluntary manslaughter and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He was subsequently booked into the Aiken County Detention Center. Authorities indicated that the investigation was ongoing and that further charges could be possible as more information became available.
