In the chill of a December evening in Louisville, Kentucky, just eight days before Christmas in 2016, George Robert Brown, a 51-year-old Black man, was fatally shot in the front yard of his home on Olive Street. The tragedy was compounded by the presence of his 5-year-old son, who witnessed the horrific event. The Louisville Metro Police Department responded to a chaotic scene, with the flashing lights of their vehicles blending with the festive Christmas decorations in the pouring rain, as a
young boy cried for his father.
The investigation into the death of the male victim moved forward, and in January 2017, weeks after the shooting, an arrest was made. Derrick Taylor Jr. was taken into custody and charged with murder. However, the path to justice was not straightforward, as the case experienced numerous delays and complexities over the subsequent 18 months. A significant breakthrough in the case came in July 2018. Investigators identified Isaiah Jenkins, the cousin of the initially arrested suspect, as the actual shooter. Following this development, Jenkins was charged for his role in George Brown's death. Ultimately, Jenkins accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to five years in prison.
