In the early evening of May 30, 2017, in Lexington, South Carolina, a violent encounter cut short the life of 35-year-old Derrick James Jones. Responding to a call at approximately 5:15 p.m., deputies from the Lexington County Sheriff's Department arrived at the 100 block of South Hampton Road in the Red Bank area to find Jones suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate medical attention and rush to a local hospital, his injuries proved fatal.
