In the quiet community of Florence, South Carolina, the life of 30-year-old Broderick Cortez Goodman was tragically cut short on a Friday night in February 2018. Goodman, a Black male, was found suffering from gunshot wounds and was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries, leaving a family and community to grapple with the sudden and violent loss.
The investigation into Goodman's death swiftly led to the
identification of four individuals connected to the shooting. Within days of the incident, authorities announced the arrests of two adult suspects, Dayshawn Deas and Ty'sheed Michad Zimmerman, both 19 years old at the time. Alongside them, two juvenile males, aged 16 and 17, were also taken into custody. The collaborative efforts of the Florence Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force were instrumental in apprehending the suspects.
