On a tragic afternoon in May of 2019, Rodney Middleton, a 49-year-old male truck driver from Moncks Corner, South Carolina, lost his life in a senseless act of road rage. The fatal encounter unfolded on Highway 52 near Goose Creek, forever altering the lives of those involved. Middleton was driving his semi-truck when an aggressive driving incident occurred with another motorist.
The other driver, later identified as Karrington C. Holmes, engaged in a heated exchange with Middleton.
This confrontation escalated tragically when Holmes produced a firearm and shot Middleton. After the shooting, Holmes fled the scene, leaving Middleton gravely wounded. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries later that day.
The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office launched an investigation into the homicide. Their efforts led them to Karrington Christian Holmes, who was taken into custody on unrelated charges. While in custody, investigators were able to connect him to the road rage shooting death of Rodney Middleton. Holmes was subsequently charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Following a four-day trial, a Berkeley County jury convicted Karrington C. Holmes of murder and the associated weapons charge. The evidence presented during the trial detailed the events of that fateful day on Highway 52. Holmes was sentenced to 35 years in prison for his role in the death of Rodney Middleton, bringing a measure of closure to Middleton's grieving family and friends.
