In the spring of 2019, the life of 18-year-old Saquan Knight was tragically cut short. On the evening of Monday, May 20, 2019, Knight was fatally shot in North Charleston, South Carolina. Reports indicate that the incident was a result of gun violence. At the time of his death, Saquan was a resident of North Charleston. He was born on September 29, 2000.
Following the shooting, the North Charleston Police Department launched a homicide investigation.
Their efforts led to the identification of a teenage suspect. An arrest was made in connection with the death of Saquan Knight. The suspect, 17-year-old Jerome Lafayette, was taken into custody.
Lafayette was subsequently charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. He was booked into the Charleston County jail. Following his arrest, a judge denied bond for Lafayette. The case then moved to the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office for prosecution.
