In the early morning hours of June 4, 2019, the typically quiet Thornbrook Court in Greenwood, South Carolina, was disturbed by the sound of gunfire. Responding to the scene at approximately 12:10 a.m., law enforcement discovered 22-year-old Zykevious Ramsey, a Black male, shot on the steps outside an apartment complex. Ramsey had sustained a gunshot wound to his head and was immediately transported to Self Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries later that morning. The initial stages of the investigation led police to believe the incident was targeted and possibly involved drugs, though this was not officially confirmed at the time.
The Greenwood Police Department dedicated several months to unraveling the circumstances surrounding Ramsey's death. Detectives conducted numerous interviews with witnesses and meticulously analyzed evidence collected from the scene. Their persistent efforts eventually bore fruit, leading them to identify a suspect in the fatal shooting. In addition to the murder charge, Turman faced accusations of armed robbery and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. According to law enforcement, the analysis of evidence was instrumental in securing the arrest warrant.
