In the summer of 2019, a young woman's life was tragically cut short in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Quanisha Deshawn 'Queenie' Fernanders, a 23-year-old native of Spartanburg County, died on Saturday, August 3, 2019. A graduate of Spartanburg High School, she was an employee of Midway Residential Care and a member of Bountiful Blessings Church.
The circumstances of her death unfolded on a Saturday afternoon on Baltimore Street, where authorities responded to a shooting.
Fernanders was found to have been shot in the face and was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident was the result of a domestic dispute that escalated into violence.
The suspect in the fatal shooting was identified as her 38-year-old boyfriend, Charvix Lavoy Wright. Wright himself called 911 after the shooting and was subsequently arrested. He was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
During an emotional bond hearing, details of the tragic event emerged. Wright admitted to the shooting, claiming it was a misunderstanding that escalated after Fernanders grabbed a knife. He expressed remorse, stating he loved her and was willing to accept his punishment. Fernanders' family was present and audibly distraught, with her mother confronting Wright in the courtroom. Wright's bond was denied, and the case was bound over to a circuit court judge.
