On the afternoon of September 30, 2019, emergency responders were dispatched to a residence on Fountain Brook Lane in Fountain Inn, South Carolina, following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, authorities discovered Justin Keith Durham, a 30-year-old White male, suffering from a critical gunshot wound to the chest. The incident occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m. at a home where Durham had been staying intermittently.
Despite the efforts of first responders, he succumbed to his injuries, and the Laurens County Coroner’s Office subsequently ruled the manner of death as a homicide.
Detectives with the Fountain Inn Police Department launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal encounter, quickly determining that the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute. The investigation identified a female subject who was involved in the altercation and admitted to shooting Durham. Law enforcement officials noted a documented history of domestic violence involving Durham, including records that dated back to 2011 and a specific charge of first-degree domestic violence exactly one year prior to the day of his death.
Based on the evidence gathered and the history of domestic issues between the parties, authorities did not make any arrests in the case. The woman involved was not publicly identified, and after a review of the investigation, no charges were filed against her. Durham, a resident of Taylors, South Carolina, was survived by his two sons, parents, and siblings, and was remembered by his family during services held in Travelers Rest later that week.
