In the early evening of December 7, 2019, the community of Loris, South Carolina, was shaken by an act of violence that claimed the life of 32-year-old Myron Jawan Spain, a Black male resident of the town. The fatal incident unfolded around 7:00 PM in front of an apartment complex on Harrelson Avenue, where gunfire erupted, leaving a scene of chaos and multiple victims.
When law enforcement arrived, they discovered that Spain had sustained fatal injuries from the shooting.
The Horry County Coroner's Office later confirmed that he had succumbed to these wounds. In addition to the tragic loss of Mr. Spain's life, four other individuals were also injured in the shooting. These individuals were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, with at least one reported to have undergone surgery for their injuries. The conditions of the other wounded were not publicly detailed.
The scale of the crime scene prompted the local Loris Police Department to request assistance from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division to aid in the investigation. Despite the joint efforts of both law enforcement agencies, the investigation has yet to result in any arrests. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in connection with the shooting.
