In the early morning hours of December 30, 2019, the life of 26-year-old Medicus Joseph Watson of Seabrook, a male, was tragically cut short in Burton, South Carolina. The fatal incident unfolded just before 2 a.m. on Roberts Lane, where a dispute that began over a card game escalated into deadly violence. An exchange of gunfire erupted outside a shed where the game was being held, resulting in Watson being pronounced dead at the scene.
Family and friends remember Watson as a loving and
hardworking individual who was dedicated to his one-year-old daughter. His sister described him as someone who was 'always giving you a hug' and 'was always willing to help everyone'. He was employed at Madison's restaurant in Port Royal. In the wake of the shooting, his grieving family gathered near the crime scene, sharing memories and struggling to comprehend the sudden loss at the close of the year. His cousin lamented the prevalence of gun violence, stating, 'There are better ways to resolve this around here'.
The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office investigated the shooting, collecting multiple cartridge casings and illegal drugs from the scene. Their investigation quickly led them to a suspect, 30-year-old Terrance Morgan of Grays Hill. Morgan was also injured in the shootout and was treated at a local hospital before being released. Later that day, investigators obtained arrest warrants, and Morgan was apprehended at his home.
Terrance Morgan was charged with murder and attempted murder in connection with the shooting that killed Medicus Watson and injured another man. During his arrest, Morgan allegedly pointed a stolen handgun at deputies, leading to additional charges of pointing and presenting a firearm. He was booked into the Beaufort County Detention Center.
