In a tragic act of domestic violence, 48-year-old Julie Bartlett Taylor, a female, was found deceased in her Rock Hill, South Carolina, home on Friday, January 17, 2020. A devoted mother and a beloved nurse for over two decades, she was discovered on the couch in her townhome with a gunshot wound. The heartbreaking discovery was made by her 12-year-old daughter.
The investigation quickly led police to identify her estranged husband, 47-year-old Christopher J. Taylor, as the suspect.
The couple was in the process of a divorce, and court records revealed a history of domestic turmoil. Just two days prior to the fatal shooting, a judge had issued a restraining order against Christopher Taylor, barring him from contacting his wife or going to her residence. Despite this, he went to her home on Winding Way where he shot her twice in the head. Evidence gathered by investigators included gunshot residue found on his clothes and in his car, and witnesses reported seeing his vehicle at her home on the day of the murder.
Christopher J. Taylor was arrested shortly after his wife's death and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He remained in custody until October 2022, when he pleaded guilty to murder. In a legal proceeding known as an Alford plea, he did not admit guilt but acknowledged that he would likely be found guilty if the case went to trial. The judge sentenced him to 30 years in a South Carolina prison. Under the terms of his sentence, he is not eligible for parole. The case was noted as the first homicide in Rock Hill for the year 2020.
