Death by Force

Travis L. Smith, a 42-year-old inmate at Evans Correctional Institution in Columbia, South Carolina, was found unresponsive in his cell on December 1, 2023. He was pronounced dead shortly after noon. The South Carolina Department of Corrections, along with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and the Marlboro County Coroner's Office, are investigating his death as a homicide.
