In the early hours of a Tuesday in Conway, South Carolina, the life of 20-year-old Tybius Owens was tragically cut short. On April 7, 2020, police responded to a call of a shooting at a residence on Ida Lane. Upon arrival, they found Owens inside the home with a gunshot wound to his chest. A witness at the scene was discovered holding Owens and was described as crying hysterically.
She informed the authorities that she had been in the living room when she heard gunshots and then found Owens on the bedroom floor.
The investigation into the shooting quickly led to a suspect. Two days later, on Thursday, April 9, 2020, the Horry County Police Department announced the arrest of 19-year-old Jerome Tyler Evans of Conway. Evans was subsequently charged with murder in connection to the death of Tybius Owens.
Following his arrest, Jerome Tyler Evans was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center, where he was held without bond. The address listed for Evans in court records was the same as the location where the fatal shooting occurred. At the time of his arrest, Evans had no prior criminal history in Horry County.
